The Econoline RA-36-1 Abrasive Blast Cabinet features a standard 12 CFM blast gun. It combines compressed air with an abrasive material to alter the surfaces of material placed inside the cabinet. This machine includes both side and front door access to the 36 x 24 x 23 inch working space.

How to Start

  1. Get a think[box] Ability Badge: Come to think[box] and ask a Student Worker for an Ability Badge Orientation. They will ask you to read sections of the think[box] Access Policies and Safety Policies and then you will read and sign an electronic Machine Shop Access Agreement. You will be given an Ability Badge, which must be worn at all times when you are using the machine shop. Note, you are not yet approved to use the machines in the machine shop.
  2. Review the Tutorial: Read the think[box] TutorialGrinding, Sanding, Filing, and Bead Blasting and familiarize yourself with the parts, terminology, and general safety information pertaining to Grinding, Sanding, Filing and Bead Blasting.
  3. Take the Online Quiz: Take and pass the think[box] online Grinding, Sanding, Filing, and Bead Blasting Quiz. You must get 100% on the quiz to pass. Refer to the Tutorial: Grinding, Sanding, Filing, and Bead Blasting as you take the quiz. If you do not pass the first time, review your answers and make sure you know why you didn't pass, then take the quiz again. You may take the quiz as many times as you need to until you pass.
  4. Schedule an in Person Certification Class: Go to the Online Scheduler to schedule a time to take the think[box] Grinding, Sanding, and Filing Certification Class. This is a 30 minute class taught by think[box] staff that covers basic Grinding, Sanding, Filing and Bead Blasting safety and operation. Upon successful completion of the class, you will be given a "GRIND" sticker for your ability badge that grants you permission to use the think[box] Grinders, Sanders, Files and Bead Blast cabinet during all open hours. 

    * If you already know how to use this equipment, please use the above link anyway and use the comments section of the online scheduler to indicate your level of familiarity with the equipment. Depending on your past experience think[box] staff are willing to expedite the certification process.
